
Yellow Dal / lentil curry is basically a side dish we can take along with Jeera rice/chapathi/Roti/ even normal rice. I tried this recipe with Mung dal. We can also use Tur Dal instead of Mung dal. It is simply a perfect menu for Lunch menu
Ingredients for yellow dal / Lentil curry:
Preparation Time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 20 mins | Serves: 2-3
- Mung Dal – 1 cup (250 gms) – pressure cook beforehand
- Onion – 1 finely chopped
- Tomato -1 finely cjopped
- bay leaf – 1, cinnamon stick, cloves -2
- turmeric powder -1 pinch
- chili powder -1 tsp
- corainder powder -1 tsp
- mustard seeds -1 tsp
- cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- dry methi leaves,coriander leaves
- water as required
- oil as required
Method:
- in a vessel, add oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let it splutter
- bay leaf, cinnamon stick and cloves are added. slowly put ginger garlic paste and saute it well
- add onions in the vessel and cook till turns translucent
- tomatoes can be added. mix it well
- once tomatoes are mushy, put in turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and coriander powder
- add 1/2 cup of water. allow it to boil. add cooked mung dal when water boils
- combine everything together and cook for 3-5 minutes
- sprinkle dry methi leaves and coriander leaves. switch off flame
- yellow dal curry is ready to serve!!!
