Samba Rava Upma

Samba Rava upma is one great choice to be included in healthy diet. The process takes similar approach like every other upma procedure. Some days, I include few veggies of my choice to have an enriched and refreshing breakfast, Initially,I did not like the taste but once I add a teaspoon of lime juice at the end, I almost started liking its taste. Below I have included the recipe I tried out.

Ingredients:

Preparation Time : 10 mins | Cooking Time : 15 Mins | Serves: 2-3

  • Samba Rava – 1 1/2 Cup
  • Water – 3 Cups
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato -1
  • Green Chilli -1
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
To Temper:
  • Mustard Seeds -1 tsp
  • Urad Dal – 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves
  • Oil, Salt as required

Method:

  • In a heavy bottomed pan, add oil and mustard seeds
  • Once it splutters, add urad dal, green chilli and curry leaves
  • Add onion, saute it for few minutes. when translucent, add tomatoes. It will become mushy in 2-3 minutes time
  • Pour the water in this and allow it to boil
  • Once water starts boiling, add samba rava and saute it well.
  • Normally samba rava takes 10 minute time to get cooked. Mix the content occasionally in the time
  • Samba rava is ready to be served hot. Any Chutney or sugar can be used as side dish
