Vazhakkai Podimas (plantain banana)

Plantain Banana is highly nutritious as it contains carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and is also easily available. Vazhakkai podimas is a recipe different from regular poriyal or fry. I gave a try of the below recipe as it follows very simple steps with less ingredients. Outcome be a good mouth watering side dish for rice. Normally this recipe goes well with Sambar Rice or Mor kuzhambu or Vathakozhambu

Ingredients:

Preparation Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 20 mins

  • Plantain Banana – 3
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal – 1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves
  • Green Chilli -1
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt as required
  • Lime Juice – 1 tsp
  • grated coconut – 3 tbsp

Method:

  • Cut Plantain Bananas in half and steam cook for 15 minutes
  • Once cooled, remove its skin and grate it with sieve
  • Take a pan, add oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds and wait till it splutters
  • Add urad dal, curry leaves, green chilli, turmeric powder and salt. Saute it for 2 minutes
  • Scrapped banana can be added now along with grated coconut. Mix everything together well. Leave for 2 minutes
  • Switch off the flame and add lemon juice in it
  • Vazhakkai podimas is ready to serve
