Rava Kitchidi is a Simple and easy tiffin item. I included few vegetables of my choice to enhance its taste. Vegetables can be varied based on availability at home. Usually, rava kitchidi is served hot with sambar or chutney along with a hot cup of coffee. when i took home with friends, we used to do this recipe as it follows very easy steps with no much work
ingredients:
- rava/sooji – 1 cup( 200 gms)
- Onion finely Chopped – 1
- tomato – 1 medium
- green chili -1 slit
- vegetables – 1 cup ( i took carrots, beans, cabbage)
- mustard seeds – 1tsp
- urad dal – 1 tsp
- channa dal – 1 tsp
- oil as required
- water – 2 1/2 cup
- salt as required
- turmeric powder – 1 pinch
- curry leaves
Method:
- In a pan, dry roast rava/ sooji till becomes golden brown and set it aside
- In the same pan, add oil and wait till becomes hot
- once hot, add mustard seeds, allow it to splutter
- now add urad dal, channa dal, green chili, turmeric powder and curry leaves
- finely chopped onion is added in it and saute for 2-3 minutes till becomes translucent
- add tomatoes and allow it cook to become mushy
- vegetables of choice are added along with the required salt
- allow the vegetables to cook for 5-7 minutes ( few veggies take more time to cook)
- water is added in the pan and wait till it boils
- Once the water starts boiling, roasted sooji/ rava is added slowly without creating any lumps
- water is completely absorbed and rava gets cooked in 3-5 minutes
- if required, add small amount of water to cook the rava
- rava kitchidi is ready to serve hot!!!
