Kadappa is a famous Side dish for Dosa, idly, poori or Chapathi. It is named after my native town “kumbakonam” and the recipe is called as “kumbakonam” kadappa. It is a famous dish in many of the restaurants in kumbakonam. i thought of trying out this special dish when i started to cook but always in mind that it follows a very lengthy process. Once i started to do the recipe, i found that it follows three different procedures such as grinding, pressure cooking and combining everything together in cooking and all can be done in Parallel ways which saves cooking time. it is must try side dish for breakfast menu
ingredients:
preparation time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 20 mins
onion – 1 finely chopped
tomato – 1 medium
garlic pods – 2 chopped
water as required
salt as required
pre task:
pressure cook both
potato -1
mung dal – 1/4 cup
to grind:
scrapped coconut -1/4 cup
roasted bengal gram – 2 tbsp
green chili -2
to temper:
mustard seeds – 1 tsp
cumin seeds – 1 tsp
curry leaves
oil as required
method:
grind the “to grind” ingredients together with some water into fine paste and set it aside
in a pan, add oil and wait till becomes hot
once hot, add mustard seeds. allow it to splutter
add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili and finely chopped Garlic Pods. saute it well
now onion can be added, cook for 2-3 minutes. wait till becomes translucent
Add tomatoes in the pan. allow it to become mushy
Cooked potato is smashed and added in the pan. add the required salt in it along with some water. allow it to cook for 3- 5 minutes
add the grinded paste and mix everything together
mung dal is added now. let it boil for 3-5 minutes
