Akki Roti

Akki Roti is a karnataka style breakfast item. Akki roti means “rice bread” in the native language of kannada. The process is so simple that kneading rice flour with few ingredients such as salt, water, onions and spread it in a desired shaped and cook it. Recently, I made this one at home along with peanut chutney as side dish. sharing the recipe as below

ingredients:

preparation time: 10 mins | Cook time: 10 mins | serves: 2-3

  • Rice Flour – 1 cup (200 gms)
  • Onion – 1 medium
  • channa dal – 1 tbsp
  • ginger grated – 1/8 tsp
  • green chilies – 1 finely chopped
  • cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • carrot grated – 1/4 cup
  • coriander leaves
  • salt as required
  • water as reqiored
  • oil as required

method:

  • Pre-soak: channa dal in water for 15 minutes (to soften it)
  • mix all the dry Ingredients such as rice flour, onion,cumin seeds, carrot, ginger, green chilies, channa dal
  • knead the mixture well by adding water partly
  • dough is prepared and keep it aside for 10 minutes
  • take a butterpaper/parchment paper/banana leaf. apply few drops of oil on top
  • divide the dough into small sized balls. take a ball and spread it evenly by tapping
  • heat a dosa tawa. once hot, apply oil and place the akki roti and cook it for a minute
  • gently remove the butter paper and apply oil over the edges
  • flip over the sides once bottom part turns golden brown
  • take out when both sides are cooked
  • Akki roti is ready!!!
  • Serve Hot With Peanut Chutney!!!
