Mysore Masala Dosa

Mysore Masala Dosa is a traditional dosa of Karnataka. I was introduced to this dosa through my friend. So, I wanted to try out this delicious dosa recipe at home. preparing mysore masala dosa follows very simple three steps such as preparing red chutney, making potato masala stuffing and combine everything together with a dosa. I enjoyed this dosa with a coconut chutney. Normally, all chutneys and sambar goes well with this dosa

Ingredients to make mysore Masala Dosa:

  • Dosa Batter – 1 cup (200ml)
  • Potatoes – 2 medium
  • onion – 2 medium ( finely Chopped )
  • Tomato – 1 medium
  • turmeric powder – 1/8
  • chili powder – 1 tsp
  • salt as required
  • Cashew Nuts – 5-6
  • oil as required
to roast and grind:
  • Channa Dal – 2 tbsp
  • red chilies – 3
  • salt as required
  • scrapped coconut – 1 tbsp
  • garlic pods -2

Method:

Step 1 – red chutney preparation:
  • heat a pan, add a tsp of oil
  • once hot, Dry roast “to roast and grind” ingredients
  • allow the mixture to cool off completely
  • grind it into a fine paste
  • red chutney is ready
Step 2 – Potato Masala Preparation:
  • heat a pan, add oil. once hot, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter
  • add few curry leaves
  • finely chopped onions are added now and saute till turns translucent (takes 2-3 minutes)
  • add tomatoes in the pan. let it cook till becomes mushy
  • put in turmeric powder, chili powder and required salt. mix everything together well
  • pressure cooked potatoes are cut into cubes and added now
  • combine it well and mash the mixture together using potato masher
  • add cashew nuts on top (optional)
  • sprinkle few coriander leaves and turn off stove

red chutney and potato masala is ready now for Mysore masala dosa preparation

Step 3 – mysore masala dosa preparation:
  • heat a dosa tawa
  • once hot, spread some oil on top evenly
  • take 1 1/2 laddle of dosa batter, spread it into a round shape ( optionally, add a tsp of sugar in the batter, which gives a nice flavor)
  • add 3 tsp of red chutney on top of dosa, smudge it evenly with a back of spoon over the surface
  • place prepared potato masala on top of red chutney.
  • close the dosa with a lid and allow it to cook for 3-5 minutes
  • after sometime, take out the lid, flip the dosa when bottom part turns golden brown
  • Mysore masala Dosa is ready!!! Serve Hot With Chutneys!!!
