Peanut Chutney

Peanut or groundnut chutney is a protein rich chutney served as side dish for pongal, dosa, idlis or any tiffin items. it can be quickly made by simply mixing groundnuts and some spicy. This chutney does not include any coconut and yet it is so thick and delicious. Some people will not temper this chutney but it did include tempering this chutney as it gives additional taste

Ingredients to make peanut chutney:

to roast and grind:
  • Peanuts /Groundnuts – 100grams
  • red chilies -3 or 4
  • channa dal – 1 tsp
  • garlic pods – 2
  • salt as required
to temper:
  • mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • urad dal – 1 tsp
  • red chili – 1
  • hing/asoefotida
  • curry leaves

Method:

  • dry roast peanuts in a vessel for 5 minutes. this steps helps to peel off skin from peanuts
  • transfer this to a mixie jar

Some people include peanuts as such without removing its skin)

  • in a vessel, add a drop of oil
  • roast urad dal, Channa dal, red chilies for 2-3 minutes or until dal turns golden brown
  • add garlic pods and cook for a minute
  • add this mixture with the roasted peanuts in the mixie jar
  • when the mixture is cooled off completely, grind this into fine paste
to temper:
  • in a pan, add oil
  • once hot, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter
  • put in urad dal, curry leaves and cook for a minute or until urad dal turns golden brown
  • add red chili and saute it together for a minute
  • hing/asoefotida can be added (optional)
  • slowly pour this into the chutney
