
Uppu Urundai/Rice balls is a simple and easy breakfast menu choice prepared with basic ingredients and with less oil. The procedure is very similar to upma with the additional process of steam cooking the prepared rice balls. Same process can be followed with rice flour as well. It can be served hot with any chutney or sambar of choice.Sharing below the recipe I prepared at home
Ingredients to make Uppu Urundai/Rice Balls:
Preparation Time: 10 mins | Soak Time: 1 hour | Cook Time: 20 mins
- Raw rice – 1 cup
- mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- urad dal – 1 tsp
- scrapped coconut – 1/2 cup
- red chilies – 3-4
- oil as required
- water as required
- salt as required
- curry leaves
Pre-task: Soak Raw rice in water for 1 hour
Method:
- in a mixie jar, add soaked raw rice
- grind it into batter consistency
- keep this aside
- in a vessel/pan, add oil
- add mustard seeds and allow it splutter
- add cumin seeds, urad dal, red chilies,curry leaves
- saute it once
- add grounded rice mixture gently
- combine it together
- add scrapped coconut in the pan. cook for 2 minutes
- add required salt. mix it once
- turn off flame. keep this aside for 5 minutes to get cooled
- take small portion of the prepared rice mixture into equal sized balls
- steam cook for 10-12 minutes
Uppu Urundai Is Ready. Serve hot with chutneys
