Bombay Halwa | Karachi Halwa is a traditional Indian sweet. The recipe to make this delicious halwa requires simple ingredients such as corn flour, sugar and ghee majorly. yet it requires little patience to keep stirring the halwa for almost 30-40 minutes to get the perfectly shaped and mouth-watering Halwa. Sharing below the recipe i tried at home
Ingredients to make Bombay Halwa | Karachi Halwa:
Preparation time: 10 mins | Cook Time: 40 mins
- Corn Flour – 1 cup
- sugar – 2.5 cups
- water – 4 cups
- ghee – 3/4 cup
- cardamom powder – 1/4 tsp
- food color
- cashewnuts
Method:
- In a vessel, mix corn flour(1 cup) with Water(2 cups)
- stir it well without making any lumps
- keep this aside
- in a pan, add sugar
- pour water in it and allow it to dissolve completely
- once the sugar is dissolved, add corn flour mixture slowly
- make sure to avoid lumps being formed
- After 5-7 Minutes, Mixture Starts To Thicken
- add ghee (1 tbsp) and stir it well – 1st time
- once the ghee is absorbed, add ghee (1 tbsp) – 2nd time
- repeat adding ghee (1 tbsp) for three more time for every 5 minutes when ghee is absorbed
- at this time, mixture is thickened
- add a tsp of food color and a pinch of cardamom powder
- combine it well
- sprinkle broken cashewnuts in the pan and mix it well
- keep stirring the halwa for 10-15 minutes or until gets the perfect consistency
Perfect Consistency: take a portion of halwa and try making small ball from it, should not stick to the hands
- in a flat bottomed vessel, transfer the halwa
- spread it evenly with few nuts on top
keep this aside for 1 hour
cut into desired shape. Bombay or Karachi Halwa is ready!!!
