Devotees will offer this yummy dish for Lord Ganesh on every Ganesh Chaturti( Vinayagar Chaturti) and even of monthly chaturthi days. Even on the Auspicious day of Varalakshmi Pooja, we make this yummy kozhukattai as neivedhyam dish. This recipe is included with detailed step by step instructions along with video for reference. We can make many different varieties of kozhukattai, but thengai(Coconut) poorna kozhukattai is the traditional neivedhyam dish. Ingredients to make Kozhukattai:
For Outer Dough Preparation:
- Rice Flour – 1 cup (200 grams)
- Water- 1 cup
- Oil as required
- Salt as required
For Coconut Pooranam:
- Scrapped Coconut – 1 cup (200 grams)
- Jaggery- 1 cup (200grams)
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Cardamom Powder – 1/4 tsp
- Water as required
Method:
Preparation Time: 15 mins | Cook Time: 45 mins | 22-25 medium sized Kozhukattais
Step 1 – Outer Dough Preparation:
- in a bowl/vessel,add rice flour (1 cup)
- pour a cup of water
- mix it well without forming lumps
- keep this ready!
- n A Pan/Vessel, Add A Tbsp Of Gingely Oil
- Add Rice Flour Water Mix
- Stir It Continuously For 5-7 Minutes Or Until Gets Perfect Consistency (Check Video For Reference)
- Transfer To A Bowl. Close With The Lid
- Keep This Aside
Step 2- Making Coconut Poornam:
- in a pan/vessel, add jaggery powder (1 cup)
- Pour 1/4 cup of water
- mix it well
- add a pinch of cardamom powder and a tsp of ghee
- add a cup of scrapped coconut in the pan
- combine and cook for 5-7 minutes
- turn off stove and Transfer to a bowl
- Coconut Poornam is ready!
Step 3- Cooking Kozhukattai:
- apply few drops of oil on Palm
- make equal sized balls with Coconut Poornam and Rice flour dough
- Take a ball, start making choppu ( Check video for reference )
- place Coconut Poornam inside and close (as shown)
- Repeat the procedure
Steam Cook:
- in a pressure cooker, add water
- place idli plate/steam vessel inside the cooker
- Sprinkle some water on top ( check Video for reference )
- close with the lid
- Steam cook for 15 minutes
After 15 minutes,
- kozhukkattai is cooked well (if we tough the cooked kozhukattai, should not be sticky)
