Pani Puri is a typical street style Indian evening Snack item. this recipe includes detailed explanation along with the video for reference to prepare Mint Coriander Chutney, Dates Tamarind Chutney, Potato Masala Stuffing and Make Puris on our own. It follows very simple procedure to cook everything and worth the time to taste the delicious Street Style Pani Puris
Ingredients to make Pani Puris:
Preparation time: 10 mins | Wait Time: 20 mins | Cook Time: 40 mins
For Mint Coriander Chutney:
- Coriander Leaves-1/2 cup
- Mint Leaves – 1/2 cup
- Green chili -1
- Ginger -1/8 inch
- Chat masala – 1/4 tsp
- Salt as required
- Water -1/4 cup
For Dates Tamarind Chutney:
- Tamarind Water – 1 cup (pre-soak: small lemon sized tamarind in 1 cup water)
- Dates – 6-7
- Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
- Sugar – 1/4 cup
For Potato Stuffing:
- Potato – 2 (Medium Boiled)
- Onion – 1/2 cup (finely Chopped)
- Coriander leaves
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Chat masala – 1/2 tsp
- Salt as required
For Pani Puris:
- Rava/Semolina – 1 cup
- Maida – 2 tbsp
- Salt as required
- Water- 1/3 cup
Method:
Step – 1: Making Mint Coriander Chutney:
- In a small Mixie jar, add all ingredients to make “mint coriander chutney”
- grind it into puree
- Filter to a bowl adding extra water as per required consistency
- Mint Coriander Chutney is ready!!!
Step 2- Making Dates Tamarind Chutney:
- in a kadai/pan, add tamarind water, dates, chilli powder, sugar
- cook for 15 minutes. saute occasionally
- turn off flame and allow the mixture to cool off completely
- grind it into fine paste
- Dates Tamarind Chutney is ready!!!
Step 3- Potato Masala Stuffing:
- In a bowl, add boiled potatoes and mash well
- add chili powder, onions, chat masala along with required salt and coriander leaves
- combine everything together
- potato masala stuffing is ready!!!
Step 4- Pani Puris and Serve:
- in a bowl, add rava, maida, salt and water (1/3 cup required for 1 cup rava)
- mix well and prepare dough
- cover with damp cloth. rest for 20 minutes
after 20 minutes,
- take small portion of dough
- spread evenly in a flat surface
- make circles using mould/any lid
- take small puris out gently
- small puris are ready now for frying
- Repeat The Procedure
- in a kadai/pan, add oil for frying
- once hot, slowly add puris (we prepared)
- flip both sides to fry evenly on both sides
(refer video for procedure)
- take out once puris are cooked well
For serving Pani Puris,
- make hole in the puris
- stuff with potato masala
- add both tamarind dates chutney and mint coriander chutney
- few onions as topping
- optionally add sev coriander leaves
- repeat the procedure
Pani Puris along with two types of chutneys and Potato Stuffing are ready!!!
